i've always thought that the Chanel classic flap was the LBD of handbags. like all classics, it can go from uptown ladylike to downtown tomboy with ease. the price tag, however, is another story. if you're lucky, your mom or grandmom who bought hers in the 1980s/1990s (before prices went from expensive to stratospheric) would suddenly decide that her vintage Chanel no longer suits her lifestyle, and agree to swap it for your...Longchamp tote.
for the rest of us, there's the stylehacker version.
drumroll please...behold the chic and affordable Chanel-esque classic flap. it also comes in a larger version (similar to the Chanel jumbo).
in addition to the classic black, i'm really liking the rich burgundy and moss versions for fall. i like that it's a tasteful adaptation of the original, and the relatively minimal hardware and lack of logos might even appeal to more people who aren't into the double CCs.
i checked these out in person recently at a department store, and the leather and hardware feel quite sturdy and durable. it's a great buy if you love the look of the Chanel but can't fathom paying the retail, or you're wishlisting the real deal but want to try out the style before going for the splurge. a little bit of practical luxury for everyone.
